Possible Roles

Community Group Volunteers:

Early Explorers

Early Explorers Volunteers help create a friendly, supportive space where families can play, learn and connect. Our sessions run as a weekly group during term time, and volunteers play an important role in helping these feel welcoming and inclusive for every-one. You’ll help welcome parents and carers, support engaging activities, and encourage the everyday moments of talking, playing and exploring that strengthen the Home Learning Environment (HLE).

This role would suit someone who enjoys building warm connections and wants to help nurture positive, confident relationships between parents/carers and their children.

Tasks may include:

  • Welcoming families as they arrive and helping them feel comfortable
  • Supporting engaging play and learning activities
  • Chatting with parents and carers to encourage everyday talking, playing, and exploring
  • Helping set up and tidy away resources
  • Offering a friendly presence and guiding families around the space

Early Readers

Early Reader Volunteers support a 4-week programme delivered in local schools, inspiring families with 2-year-olds to have fun sharing books and stories together. Across the sessions, you’ll support engaging reading activities, chat with parents and children, and help build confidence around enjoying stories at home. Your encouragement helps strengthen the bond between parents/carers and their children, supports early language and communication, and contributes to a positive Home Learning Environment (HLE) through shared reading moments.

Tasks may include:

  • Supporting weekly reading and story-sharing activities as part of the 4-week course
  • Welcoming families and helping them feel comfortable in each session
  • Chatting with parents and children about enjoying books and stories at home
  • Encouraging families to explore books together during the sessions
  • Helping set up and tidy away books and resources each week
  • Offering a warm, friendly presence throughout the programme

Transition Programme / My Big School Adventure

Transition Programme Volunteers help families feel ready and relaxed about starting school. Across three friendly sessions in June and July, you’ll welcome parents and children, support engaging activities, and share practical ideas that help make the move into school feel smoother. Your involvement helps parents/carers and children feel supported and confident as they begin this new chapter.

Tasks may include:

  • Welcoming families and helping them feel comfortable in the space
  • Supporting engaging, play-based and school-readiness activities
  • Chatting with parents/carers about ways to prepare for starting school
  • Encouraging children to explore activities that build confidence for their new environment
  • Helping set up and tidy away resources before and after each session
  • Offering a warm, friendly presence throughout the programme

Social Media Volunteer

Social Media Volunteers help us share our work with families and the wider community. You might create short posts, capture moments from sessions or events, and share simple tips that support parents and children at home. Your involvement helps more families feel connected to what we do and encourages them to join in.

Tasks may include:

  • Creating short, engaging posts for social media platforms
  • Capturing photos or short clips (with permission) during sessions or events
  • Sharing helpful ideas and tips that support families at home
  • Highlighting upcoming sessions, events, or opportunities
  • Showcasing the impact of our work in a positive, accessible way
  • Working with staff to ensure content reflects our values and supports families

Events Volunteer

We run family events throughout the year and often need a friendly hand to help things run smoothly. You might meet families as they arrive, help with activities or resources, and make sure everyone knows where to go. Your support helps create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where families can enjoy spending time together.

Tasks may include:

  • Welcoming families and helping them feel comfortable as they arrive
  • Supporting a range of activities, crafts, or play opportunities
  • Guiding families around the space and answering simple question
  • Helping set up and tidy away resources before and after events
  • Offering a warm, friendly presence throughout the event
  • Assisting staff with any additional tasks to keep things running smoothly

Parent involvement

We have some new exciting opportunities for parents to be part of our co-production journey by joining our family forums. These groups will bring together the voices of parents with young children in Wirral and provide us with a platform to bring their visions to life.

If you have a child under the age of five and want to get involved in new projects that can help support your local community please get in touch.
