Little explorers

We support schools and early years settings to establish Little Explorers groups. Little Explorers is for parents and children together and is open to all nursery parents once a week, throughout the academic year.

For all schools or nurseries with 2-year-olds, 3 & 4-year-old children, we use an evidence-based method of engaging parents in their children’s learning.

So, what do we do?

We train school staff in the Peep Learning Together programme. This provides practitioners with all the skills and knowledge they need to support parents in the home learning environment. Our team then support school staff to run weekly groups for parents.

Impact

During the year 22/23, schools were finding it difficult to maintain the weekly groups due to covid. However, those that managed a reasonable number of sessions showed that the children of parents who attended progressed two points further than those whose parents didn’t attend. Furthermore, there is lots of evidence of more secure relationships between parent and child, parent and school staff; and between parents. Parents had a significantly better attitude towards their child’s learning and towards the school.

Cost

As a charity, we don’t currently have funds to cover this work so schools pay for exactly what they get. There are no overheads and management fees (although this may change in the future).

  • Cost of support and visits – £150
  • Cost of Training – £310

The next training is scheduled for September 2023. There is also a £50 per person reduction for any schools who can provide a suitable room for two full days (9am – 5pm).
