Meet the team

Sophie Britton

Sophie Britton

Early Years Trainer

The birth of my son ten years ago sparked my keen interest in children’s learning and development. I hold a 1st Class Honours Degree in Early Childhood Studies. I have always been particularly interested in working directly with parents and even wrote my dissertation on building successful partnerships with parents in different environments. Before working for FYT, I worked in a busy day nursery. I thoroughly enjoy my role at FYT as it is very rewarding supporting parents to further their confidence in helping their children to learn and develop.

Early Years Trainer

I am a mum of 3 children and have been working and volunteering within the early years sector for 13 years, mainly in schools and community pre-schools. I am particularly passionate about supporting children’s communication and language. I am a qualified peep practitioner and have a number of early years qualifications, including a Level 3 Diploma in Children & Young People’s Workforce. I have also recently gained my Level 4 certificate in Education and Training. I love working with FYT and our families and I really believe the work we do can make a real and lasting difference.

Diane Mulligan

Diane Mulligan

Early Years Trainer

I have worked with children and families for 38 years in various settings from a playgroup, running a limited company that provided creches, Nursery Manager and most recently Creche Team Leader. I am a mum to 3 and nanna to 3 grandchildren and have really enjoyed early years play experiences at home with each of them, using whatever resources I had around my home. I am passionate about sensory play and how to provide this with everyday items and inexpensive resources. I have an NVQ 3 in Childcare and Education, Foundation Degree in Leadership and Management, an NPQICL and a qualification in Education and Training Level 3. This is a fantastic opportunity for me at FYT and I am looking forward to meeting parents, their families and the staff at the settings.

Parent Partnership Worker

Since gaining my Level 3 diploma in Childcare and Education in 2006, I have worked within early years settings in a variety of roles. I have always been intrigued into how children learn and what we can do to support this. Now I am a parent of two, my understanding of how important my role is as their primary educator has grown, particularly how the fun learning opportunities I provide at home can make a difference to their education. This is the message I hope to spread to others in my role as a Parent Partnership Worker at FYT.

Jennifer Blair

Jennifer Blair

Parent Partnership Worker

I have been working in the early years sector for nearly 20 years and have my Diploma in Nursery Nursing. I took some time out to start a family and have two children. When my youngest son started pre-school I decided to come back to work and spent some time volunteering before working in Early Years settings. My personal experiences and time volunteering sparked a keen interest in parents and working with them in partnership in all my roles. I feel so happy to have joined the FYT team, and believe we can make a huge difference for the outcomes of children and give parents the confidence to believe what an amazing job they do.

Anna-Louise Van Der Merwe

Anna-Louise Van Der Merwe

National Director

I have worked in the charity sector for over 15 years, with a focus on children and education. Much of my life I have worked in developing and post-conflict countries and my ethos is that everyone has the right to the opportunity to make the best of their lives and that this is true in both the West and in less prosperous countries. I have a young daughter who keeps me in check concerning my perspective on early years education and on parents’ role in ensuring that all children start school healthy, happy and ready to learn.

Anne Parker

Anne Parker

Local Director

I have spent over 30 years working with young children and their families and have an NNEB, BSc(Hons) in Management and an NPQICL (equivalent to headteacher qualification). I believe that all parents can support their children’s learning effectively if given the right encouragement and support, that’s why the work at FYT is so vital. I am keen to develop secure partnerships between parents and their child’s formal educator, to enhance children’s outcomes.

Tracy Taylor

Tracy Taylor

Office Manager

I moved ‘up north’ from Taunton in Somerset to live on the Wirral 6 years ago, joining the Foundation Years Trust shortly after. I enjoy the variety this job gives me, one day dressed as an elf giving out leaflets, the next hobnobbing with royalty at the House of Lords and the next arranging the audit of our accounts or sorting our payroll … there’s never a dull moment!  It’s also great working as part of our team, everyone really cares about what they do and just happen to be lovely too!

Administration Officer

As a single mother of three children, I know how challenging it can be, and am excited to be starting work for a charity helping families through those difficult early years. I have several years administrative experience and am enjoying being part of a team of committed women who are passionate about making a difference. I also enjoy the variety this job gives me, getting involved in all aspects of the financial and administrative side of the charity. I get a lot of job satisfaction knowing that my work behind the scenes is helping support the important work this charity is doing, helping families and children in my local community.
