FYT Go Wild at the Farm

22 April 2015

Child and pig

Tam O'Shanter had a farm ... e i, e i, o ...!  Move over Old Macdonald!

Fifteen families from Beechwood and Rock Ferry converged on Tam O'Shanter urban farm on Tuesday 14 April to enjoy a school holiday outing in the Spring sunshine.

Parents and children from five different FYT groups came together to wander round the farm, meet the animals up close and take part in the Ranger led activities.  Some of the older children completed the treasure hunt, with a little help from the adults, while the younger children enjoyed feeding the ducks and admiring the tiny newborn chicks.  With a quack quack here and a quack quack there ..!

And on that farm ... there was a cow to milk - not a real one but with lifelike udders which produced 'real' milk which squirted into a bucket.  "That was the best thing" said Michael who is 6 years old.  With a moo moo here and a moo moo there!!

There was also a huge black spotted pig who was about to give birth and who "felt like straw" when patted!  With an oink oink here and an oink oink there!!

After a picnic lunch some children joined one of the Rangers and painted pottery animals and the brave ones amongst us were introduced to a corn snake who slitered over our hands.

"We all had a great time".
