Play Together

Support for families to enjoy time with young children

Play Together supports families from when babies become crawlers and toddlers until they start school.  There are two elements to this support:

Providing accessible and flexible ways parents can develop their confidence and enjoyment in parenting through play.  We deliver groups for parents and children which are available to everyone and provide activities to strengthen parent and child relationships through play; whilst building parent/carers’ self-esteem and confidence in their own parenting skills.

Improving parents’ knowledge, understanding and involvement in children’s early learning and development though play.  We offer age-appropriate activities for children and parent/carers to share and enjoy with information and encouragement to support the building blocks of child development. We encourage parent/carers to try a variety of play activities and to incorporate play into their home lives.

Play Together is delivered by Trust staff in nursery school settings and in community settings, using the principles of PEEP.

In nursery school settings, the Trust works with nursery staff to provide a weekly session for parents and children to play together within the fifteen hours of free childcare. Each session is planned to look at a different aspect of learning and aligns with the curriculum that the nursery school is using. The groups are open to parents who have two year olds in nursery and those who have children of three – four years old.  We are currenty delivering these groups at Rock Ferry Primary School, Christchurch Primary School, Holy Cross Primary School, Well Lane Primary School and St Werburgh's Primary School.
